Doctor-Who-logo

He’s a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey. He has more lives than a cat, regenerating twelve times so far. With each regeneration his physical appearance and personality changes.

All the doctors

He travels with companions.

He’s married, but…spoilers! He’s a mad man in a box. We’ve been traveling in his T.A.R.D.I.S. since 1963. For those of you who aren’t fans yet, that stands for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space.

#10 is my favorite. David Tennant played Dr. Who from June, 2005 until January 2010. I cried when he regenerated. Favorite alien indeed.

This one changes often. I could tell you about my movie husband – Jude Law. I already told you about my first movie crush – Wil Wheaton. I really love Val Kilmer – I’ve seen all of his films. I think Anthony Hopkins is amazing too, but for today I’m going with a more shallow option. Stephen Amell. He’s gorgeous, he can act, and he’s an archer. I have a thing for archers, remember?

Stephen is a Canadian actor best known for his starring role as Billionaire Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, on the hit CW show Arrow. Thanks to Netflix, I can watch my favorite episodes and scenes over and over again. Like this one:

*happy sigh*

I love the character created for the show. Stephen is excellent in his portrayal of the tortured Oliver/Arrow. And the fight scenes! I could watch him fight all day long. I hope to see him star in other roles in the future. Maybe DC will get their crap together and make a decent Green Arrow movie!

Max and I agree that DC has better TV shows and Marvel has better movies. We are fans of both comic book universes. I’m just happy they both have archers! *wink wink, Hawkeye!*

Originally I was thinking about current TV shows which would make my favorite Dr. Who or Phineas and Ferb. Then Don posted about Star Trek: The Next Generation and I realized I was limiting myself. Favorite TV show of all time? I don’t have just one. (Shocker.) I love Star Trek, Once Upon a Time, Grey’s Anatomy, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Battlestar Gallactica, Terra Nova, and many more. I’ll probably wake up in the middle of the night thinking of others I forgot to list.

I have this thing for one word title shows. LOST, Firefly, Smallville, Psych, Roswell, and my all time favorite…

I’ve watched all 5 seasons twice and I’ll still watch reruns if I happen to catch them. It ran from 2001-2006 and starred Jennifer Garner, as kick-butt international spy, Sydney Bristow. Recruited out of college, she was trained in espionage and self-defense.I loved all of her disguises and her relationships with her friends.

I think this was my first JJ Abrams show. I love his writing. He co-created LOST, and directed the 2009 Star Trek film. He has lots of credits to his name, and I’m very excited about his latest project, a show called Revolution airing in the U.S. in late September. The tagline: 15 years after the blackout…they will light the way. Can’t wait.

What’s your favorite TV Show?

Tune into PBS this Sunday to watch a Sesame Street Primetime Special titled, “Growing Hope Against Hunger.”

Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams Paisley join the “Sesame Street” Muppets to help explain to children about the widespread problem of hunger in the U.S. In the special, they meet Lily, whose family is dealing with the issue. According to this article in The New York Times, 7-year-old Lily represents “one of the 17 million American children that the Department of Agriculture estimates are “food insecure,” meaning their access to food is limited or uncertain.”

I’m excited to watch it with our kiddos. If you live in the Denver area, it airs at 7 p.m. If not, look it up on your local PBS station’s schedule. I’ll update on this again after the special, but right now I think this is a GREAT idea!

We do this thing at our house that we call “Leader of the Day.” Each of the kids is the leader 2 days a week. The leader is responsible for loading and emptying the dishwasher, and setting the table for meals. They also get to be first in line and assist in making important life-changing decision like which movie we’ll watch as a family, or what veggie to have with supper. The best reward for the leader? At least an hour of one on one time with me.

Today was Max’s turn and we decided we’d find an old TV show on Netflix that we can watch together and discuss. Lucky for me, my son loves Sci-Fi as much as I do. After watching half an episode of Kyle XY, we decided it was inappropriate and did some more searching. Up pops a picture of Sliders. YES!

“What if you found a portal to a parallel universe? What if you could slide into a thousand different worlds — where it’s the same year, and you’re the same person, but everything else is different? And what if you can’t find your way home?”

Sliders aired on FOX from 1995-1998 until it was cancelled, but received a second chance on the Sci-Fi channel in 1999-2000. It follows a group of travelers as they “slide” through wormholes to parallel universes trying to get back to the earth they are from. A hand-held timer device determines how long they are in each world, and if they miss their window, they’ll be stuck for 29.7 years. I think Max is going to love it and I’m already predicting that he’ll have created his own timer by the end of the week.

Hooray for Mommy/Max time, Sliders, and Netflix!

What show would you watch and discuss with your tween?
