My life has been a series of turning points, so it took me awhile to decide what the biggest one has been so far. I slowly traced who I am and my current life back to its inception at York College. I was seventeen when I received my acceptance and scholarship letters. They were the apex of my dismal senior year. I counted the days until my friend Erin’s parents pulled into my driveway and loaded up my life for the long drive to York, Nebraska. I wasn’t able to look back for a long time.

I quickly made friends, double pierced my ears as a sign of independence, immersed myself in college life, boys, music, and…oh yeah, my studies. I met men and women who shaped and challenged me. I fell in and out of love. I formed friendships that have endured to this day. I played fast pitch softball with an amazing team of girls. I sang my heart out and performed in plays with some of my favorite people on campus. I stayed up half the night playing cards. I skipped chapel as many times as allowed without serious repercussions. I served on the Student Council and as a social club president. I perfected the egg burger with cheese during my work-study in the student center. I discovered there was more to my faith than what I had preached at me as a child. I worked hard and played hard. Then I met and married my amazing husband.

I wasn’t born at York College, but that is where I came to life. I honor that here with my drawing of the big water tower that passersby see on their way to Lincoln or Grand Island on Interstate 80. Oh how I love that landmark. 🙂

My kids are still deciding what their turning points are, but go read the nostalgic turning points of my friends:

I love Lindor chocolate truffles and gummy worms.

Not together; that would just be gross.

Lindt was the man who invented “melting chocolate” and therefore one of my favorite men in history. 😉 If you have never tried one of these decadent truffles, you must! Dating back to 1845, history never tasted so good! Milk chocolate is my favorite, but they also come in dark, white, peanut butter, and other specialty flavors.

Though gummy bears originated in Germany in the 1920’s, the gummy worm was introduced to the world in 1981. Forget the sour powder. I like mine plain.

What is your favorite candy?

Originally I was thinking about current TV shows which would make my favorite Dr. Who or Phineas and Ferb. Then Don posted about Star Trek: The Next Generation and I realized I was limiting myself. Favorite TV show of all time? I don’t have just one. (Shocker.) I love Star Trek, Once Upon a Time, Grey’s Anatomy, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Battlestar Gallactica, Terra Nova, and many more. I’ll probably wake up in the middle of the night thinking of others I forgot to list.

I have this thing for one word title shows. LOST, Firefly, Smallville, Psych, Roswell, and my all time favorite…

I’ve watched all 5 seasons twice and I’ll still watch reruns if I happen to catch them. It ran from 2001-2006 and starred Jennifer Garner, as kick-butt international spy, Sydney Bristow. Recruited out of college, she was trained in espionage and self-defense.I loved all of her disguises and her relationships with her friends.

I think this was my first JJ Abrams show. I love his writing. He co-created LOST, and directed the 2009 Star Trek film. He has lots of credits to his name, and I’m very excited about his latest project, a show called Revolution airing in the U.S. in late September. The tagline: 15 years after the blackout…they will light the way. Can’t wait.

What’s your favorite TV Show?

Surely some of you guessed that Belle is my favorite animated character. Beauty and the Beast was our first date. She loves books. She yearns for adventure. She ends up with a beast. Okay, maybe that last part only applies to me in his princely form. 😉

Confession time:

I have had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. I survived. There was no thriving today. It has taken all that is within me to post anything at all. So, I confess that this is NOT a free hand drawing. Like my skills could improve that greatly overnight! I traced the outline of Belle and then I filled in the other details. I don’t have the eyes right. Or the nose. Or the hair. Because it’s partially my work. Sometimes we get by with a little help from our friends, so I applaud whoever created Belle and gave me a form to trace. Call me a cheater. See if I care. Or offer me grace in this moment. I really need it today. Tomorrow will be better!

I leave you with a piece of useless trivia (The beast’s real name is Prince Adam), and my favorite quote from the movie: “It’s not right for a woman to read. Soon she starts getting *ideas* and *thinking*…” ~Gaston

This one was a no-brainer for me. I love how this word looks, how it rolls off my tongue, and especially the feelings it evokes in me. Listen to some of these synonyms: bold, brassy, confident, gutsy, forward, brazen, cheeky, kicky, saucy, chic, classy, sharp, swanky. This word is awesome, and easily my favorite. 🙂
