We had a great time with Benny’s family and some new friends over the Thanksgiving weekend. Then we came home. Things haven’t been so fun since then. Benny has been fighting illness for the past three weeks. We thought he was doing better and he was able to enjoy time with his brother and the rest of the family for the holiday, but arriving home, he took a serious turn for the worse. He’s been in bed since last Sunday (Nov. 3oth) and today is the first day he feels well enough to be up and around a bit. Hear my sigh of relief?
Last Monday he started getting some swelling in his nose and by Wednesday he looked like someone had beaten his face up. On Thursday we took him to Urgent Care. The doctor walked in the room and said, “OH MY G-D! YOU NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL RIGHT NOW!!” Nice. So we took him to the ER where they told us he had a double infection and hooked him up to begin intravenous antibiotics. He has Facial Cellulitis – a severe swelling under the skin due to infection, and Impetigo -another skin infection which produces a honey colored crust as the offending bacteria bubbles up through your skin. Yeah, gross. The poor man has been in pain all week. So I began to send out email prayer requests and make calls. He had a total of four ER visits for antibiotics through the IV and finally received a prescription for oral meds around 1 a.m. on Saturday morning. It’s been a LONG week for us all!
We are so thankful to have good friends! Dr. Zack hsd taken such good care of us for the past few years and this was no exception. My friend Paula kept our kids overnight Thursday and Friday so I could be at the ER with Benny. A lady from our church that we don’t know very well, Trish, happened to be in the ER with another friend at the same time we were, so she prayed over Benny and sat with us for awhile. She also took our kids to church yesterday so we could be home resting. Robb, one of our Pastors, came to the ER to sit with us as well. We’ve received many calls and emails from friends around the country who are praying for Benny’s healing. Yes, we are blessed indeed! Benny is on the mend. He doesn’t take medication, even Tylenol for headaches, so the strong antibiotics are kicking his butt. Please keep praying for him. His fever is gone, the swelling is almost gone, but he is still in pain. So we continue to rest…
What else has been happening?
I received an email yesterday telling me that the book that my story is published in is now available on Amazon.com. 🙂 I’m SO excited! I can’t wait to get my copy in the mail. I’ll be ordering a few at my discounted rate, so be watching for a chance to win one here on MY Journey. If you’re interested in checking it out, click on the picture.
“Waiting… a season of life steeped in reflection and silence except, from time to time, for the scratching of a pen on paper to capture thoughts and convey a hopeful or trembling heart. This collection gathers the intimate words of people in a variety of circumstances where their need for God is most profound.”
It’s another promise revealed and realized. A rainbow with the rain. I am humbled by God’s love. 🙂
I am sooooo glad to hear Benny is healing. I have been praying for him, as well as your family. It’s wonderful to know you are blessed with so many friends.
I can’t wait to read the book and your story. I’ll let you know what I think.
