The decision was made to amputate the leg six inches below the knee. That happened on Tuesday afternoon. Several friends have gone to the hospital to see him which he and Rosey have greatly appreciated. Evidently no one knows what to say and Gary has taken to teasing them, asking them why they look so gloom. He says, “I’d rather be short than dead.”
Dr. White, who is also from Buena Vista, was in Denver yesterday to be fitted for his new prosthesis. His lower leg was amputated back in November. He was back to work seeing patients in a week! A week! The body is an amazing machine, isn’t it? And the mind…wow. Gary was really encouraged by Dr. White’s visit.
Benny said when he was praying over Gary and Rosey, he didn’t get the sense that this was the tragedy that we thought it might be. Their faith is strong and so is their community of family and friends.
Dear God, thank you for protecting Gary’s life and for the quick actions of all who helped him through the accident. Please bless Gary and Rosey with peace and comfort and heal his leg quickly. God, you love Gary more than anyone else and I trust him to your care. Thank you for his positive attitude and please help him hang onto it on the really hard days. Let it be an encouragement to all he encounters as a testament to the incredible human spirit you gave us. You are amazing God! In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
Praying that Gary feels God’s peace and presence and is healing well. Praying also that he is able to adapt to life and give God the glory.
