Thank you friends for all of your encouragement you’ve poured out on me here. I needed to hear the “keep your chin up” stuff. I am really looking forward to this weekend of having a few days to myself. The best part? I get to spend part of the day Saturday with my friend and mentor Linda to kick off my “Niki Time”. How awesome is that???
My friend Jared (aka Kingjaymz) posted another one of his silly quizzes, this one “Which breakfast cereal are you?” It’s only 5 questions long and the results made me laugh. Go to his blog for the link to it…I am Cheerios. I commented to J that I can blame my mom for this because she didn’t buy sugary cereals for us growing up unless it was our birthday. To this day I HATE Puffed Wheat, Puffed Rice and that nasty big log of Shredded Wheat. What the heck was she thinking? I think our dentist brainwashed her…that creepy guy who gave out dental floss for Halloween! haha (kidding Mom!) 😉
It got me to thinking about some of the wacky family traditions we had…beginning with Birthday Cereal. Every year on our birthday we got to pick out a box of cereal – ANY kind we wanted. (I loved Cookie Crisp and Fruity Pebbles) Each kid (3 of us) got 1 bowl of the special cereal and the rest of the box belonged to the birthday kid. Michael never caught on that Lennie and I used bigger bowls on his birthday. hehe (jk) I remember calling my mom after I left for college to ask her if she was mailing me a box of “Birthday Cereal”? We still joke about it and it always makes us laugh. I’ve even mailed Lennie cereal for his birthday. People think we’re nuts…and they’re right! We loved this wacky tradition!
I’ll share more wacky family traditions in the future when I don’t know what to post about. Mom, I know you’re reading this – my birthday was 3 weeks ago and I still haven’t received this particular package! 😉
Thanks for the blog love. I will return the favor on my next post, as it always makes me happy to do so.
Weird family traditions, huh? Well, my mom had this blue plate in the cupboard, and on special occasions (sports team win, birthday, high score on an important test) the special individual got to eat off of it.
My dad and I always got the carmel peanut rolls with the marshmallow center on camping trips. I still buy one on an occasion and it reminds me of those memories when I eat it. We even did it last year on our trip to the Jeep Jamboree in northern Idaho.
My dad always drank Cold Duck on Christmas day because his dad always did. Thankfully, that one has been broken for a few years. We have him on champagne and orange juice, which is way better. Anyone who has ever had Cold Duck can testify to that.
We usually got an item from the grocery store that we wanted for our birthday. That stopped as we got older and money became a little less tight.
I think that is about it, but if anything interesting (especially more so than the above mentioned) comes to mind, I’ll let you know.
