I think I coasted into the gas station tonight on fumes alone. $52.60 later, with three kids eating popsicles, we headed home. It was such a strange day. The whole family slept until 9 am! That’s unheard of at our house. That gave us exactly 30 minutes to get dressed, dress all the kids, feed them breakfast, grab a banana and some juice and run out the door so we wouldn’t be late for our Chiropractor appointment and Benny wouldn’t be late for work. It stinks that I usually work well under pressure. Came home from Dr. Zack’s a little befuddled. I don’t know what’s going on with me (other than my monthly inconvenience) that is messing my back and neck up, but I’ve needed more adjusting this week than I have in a long time. He asked if I was under a lot of stress…I almost laughed. “Not any more than usual” I said.
I got a bug up my bum to rearrange the livingroom today…I’m sure Dr. Zack would love to hear that! Since I couldn’t make the kids nap 3 1/2 hours after waking up for the day, we ate lunch and then went swimming. Evidently our manager thinks I’m an idiot parent. It was cloudy and we were expecting some rain late in the day. He comes out just as we’re getting in the pool, points to the sky and says, “If you see lightning, you need to get out of the pool”. REALLY??? That man needs more to do… Max has turned into a fish. The kid was fearlessly doing flips off the side of the pool. He was also using a pool noodle to do pretend high jumps into the water. Zoe is content to slowly make her way around the edge of the pool where there is a small ledge she can walk on while periodically saying, “Look Mommy! I can get my hair wet!” Woo Hoo! She’s learning. Petey is getting bolder by the day. I need to get that kid in swimming lessons. We had a good time and as usual they were mad at me when I told them it was time to leave.
Naptime was wonderful. They slept and I watched ALIAS reruns. Ahhhh mindless entertainment. I love our DVR! Then we headed to the bowling alley to hang out with the street kids and our Dry Bones team. We have two groups in this week. Two of the kids from Canton used to go to our church in Buena Vista, Kelly and Evan Fike. Kelly isn’t a kid anymore, but a college student at ACU. I knew her when she was 8. That makes me feel a bit old.
Speaking of being old (haha)…only 8 more shopping days for all of you who haven’t purchased my birthday gift yet. So don’t fret – there’s still time…
Leaving the bowling alley I realized I should have gotten gas about 2 days ago…oops. So that’s where the gas stop came in, with Max worrying the whole way there that everytime I slowed down we were running out of gas. (Whose kid is that anyway?) I paid $2.83/gal. I can’t complain – driving is a privilege us rich Americans get to have, so we get to pay for it as well. We got home, got into pajamas and watched a Veggie Tales DVD. That was my day. Aren’t you jealous of all the excitement? hehehe
Other details not mentioned above: 3 loads of laundry, phone conversation with my brother, 2 loads of dishes, vacuuming, and while the kids were napping – a long uninterrupted shower – also a luxury. We have a peeping Pete instead of a peeping Tom!
Maybe your day seems boring to you, but to those of us who are in a holding pattern to begin family life, it is amusing and therapeutic to read about. I am sure that your children are a great blessing to you.
Happy birthday early. I hope for a 1s and 0s friend, that will suffice. May your next year be even more blessed than the last 24 of your life;)

At 3.25 a gallon we here in Chi-Town feel no compassion for your $2.85 a gallon. That is some CHEAP gas…
Oh and Happy Birthday too 🙂

Thanks Guys! J – “Real women don’t tell their age” is a bunch of bunk! I will proudly be 34 on the 29th. I think life just keeps getting better and better the older you get. Remind me of that when I need a walker and someone to type my blog for me. 😉
Kevin – sorry to hear about the gas prices out east. yikes! And YES, the rumors are true – Benny will be in Chicago speaking the 3rd weekend of August. Is it at your church? What birdie told you? I’ve been hoping the church would fly me out as well since Benny usually doesn’t travel alone. I’m praying for extra support money next month!
BTW, didn’t you have a birthday this month as well?

Good for you Niki, and an early Happy Birthday wish. Each year we live is a gift from the creator. When we tell our age, we are bragging Him up.
I cannot believe how much you put into one day. I guess I did that too when I had a young family. Now at age 67, I know there is no possible way I could do it. The Lord knew what He was doing when he gave me children while I was very young.

Sounds like you had a great day to me. Rain, rain, rain…that’s what it did here all day. Still, we had a good day.
I taught emergency preparedness and disaster psychology this morning for a newly formed community emergency response team. The members are from what the locals call “lower/slower Delaware”. That’s anything below the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. The lifestyle really is slower just 30 miles south of where I live. I like it there, because it reminds me of my Oklahoma roots.
This afternoon we had a family outing to see “Lady in the Water”. It was not a scarey as we thought it would be. There was some humor too! Wouldn’t recommend you take your little ones, of course.
Then it was off to Panera Bread Company for a Tuscan Chicken Sandwich and French Onion Soup.
Then off to my #3 son’s girlfriend’s house to pick him up. He and her family road bikes about 30 miles this morning before the big rains hit. But, he needed me to pick him up.
He leaves on Monday for a week in New Orleans with a group of Christians who are going to renovate a home.
My #2 son returned from a two week stay at camp where he served as sports director and cabin counselor. I missed him very much, ‘cuz he fills the house with music. (He plays guitar.) In three weeks he heads off to college in Edmond, Oklahoma. I’m going to miss him…well…a lot!
My oldest son and his wife live in Edmond, about one half mile from the campus. So, it will be an easier transition for him.
Niki, I haven’t forgotten your questions re: the Holy Spirit. Lord willing, I’ll be doing some posting on this topic in the weeks ahead. My message in the morning is taken from Ephesians 3:14-21. I think this is a key text when it comes to understand how the Spirit works in our lives.
We plan on spending a few days at Bethany Beach during this next week. If my daughter lets me take my laptop, I might be able to work on it some there. But, I do need some down time. So, maybe not.
One more thing: Happy Birthday! I heard someone say that birthday are good for you. Seems that the more you have the older you get. BTW, I was 34 once.
Blessings,
-bill
