Yesterday was payday, that alone is reason enough to celebrate, don’t you think? 🙂
Pete went back to Dr. Brian on Tuesday to be retested for his food allergies. ALL but 2 have cleared up! YEAH! He is still testing sensitive to all dairy and nuts. Sensitive…that’s putting it mildly! We had him desensitized again and we go back on Valentine’s Day to be retested. I say we, because I also tested sensitive to nuts. I’m not the patient, but Dr. Brian tested me anyway. That man is amazing, and generous, and friendly, and godly, and well – he’s a great guy! I am so thankful to have come this far in just a year. Pete is a different child when he’s healthy. He’s energetic, and happy, and funny!
We were shopping lastnight and Max was tagging along with me. I saw a great tunic style shirt that was green with some scrollwork on it. I said, “Max, don’t you think this is cute? Wouldn’t this look good on mommy?” He rolled his eyes at me and said, “It looks like lettuce!”
Benny and I were talking about how lucky one of my friends is because her sister is her dentist. Benny yelled to Max, “Hey Max, do you want to be a dentist?” Just then Zoe came into the room. “Zoe, how would you like to be a dentist? Or how about a surgeon? You could cut people open and fix their guts and stuff”. She made a yucky face and said, “Yeeew!” Pete chimed in, “Me too, doctor me” which translates that he wants to be a doctor too. So I asked Zoe what she wants to be when she grows up. She smiled really big and said, “A puppy”.
Benny and I have been working out at the gym 3 days a week. There is this lady there that looks like she gets her hair done right before she comes to work out. Here I am looking somewhat more like Helga the Soviet weight lifter than work-out Barbie, and she has her hair done up all cute and she’s not sweating. Why else would you go to the gym but to sweat? I’m jealous ofcourse. I can’t wait until the day I have a great body and can just go to the gym to lift a few weights – enough to have a glistening face but not enough to smear my perfect make-up. Yeah, and I have this great little piece of ocean front property…oh never mind.
On the way to Dr. Zack’s this morning I heard a song on the radio by Relient K. I love them! The words are still ringing in my ears…Stop right there – that’s exactly where I lost it, See that line? Well I never should have crossed it. Stop right there – well I never should have said that – it’s the very moment that I wish that I could take back…who I am hates who I’ve been…who I am hates who I’ve been. I was singing and Pete was bobbing his head to the beat. It made me think about how I’m influencing my kids in the music department. I grew up listening to my mom’s favorite bands – The Beatles, Elvis, The Beach boys, Bobby Vinton, The Mama’s and the Papa’s, and my all-time favorite, Simon & Garfunkel. As a child I could sing most of their songs to you. When they aren’t thinking about it, you can overhear my kids singing Switchfoot, Barlow Girl, Third Day, DC Talk, The Newsboys, and many other bands Benny and I listen to. When we get in the van, Pete usually says, “KJ-52?” Benny teases me and says that I grew up on hippie music. I wonder what my children’s spouses will think of their musical influences. Benny likes to tease Angi about growing up with The Gaither’s. LOL (Now she’s going to kill me for writing that.) Who were your musical influences?
So glad Pete is better!
We raised our kids on Stephen Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith–now I love Third Day, Newsboys, DC Talk–all those guys–I just think it’s wonderful to have good thoughts racing around your brain!

This is so interesting. I too listened to my moms music and developed a liking for it. Of course it was long before the Beachboys were a twinkle in their daddy’s eye.
Mom liked the big bands, Sinatra, Crosby, Patti Page and all those talented musicians that most young people know nothing about. Hearing them now sure brings back good memories

Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, Trin-i-tee, Bebe and Cece Winans… Come to think of it, I need to get out more. I’ve heard OF the groups listed, but couldn’t sing any song by any of them.
Get the lettuce shirt, sounds like something I’d wear! (I have a great beaded tunic – aquamarine colour w/ silver beads and sequins… found it in the Maternity Clearance section of Old Navy. Still get great compliments on it! Oh… and I AM a hippie! NO tye-dye for me, though…)
I didn’t grow up listening to ANY music except for what was smuggled in on a makeshift radio that my brothers built. Mom and dad told us that the only music a Christian should listen to was sung at church. Times have changed. But, I know every song in that tattered hymnal by heart! Eyes closed and everything!
Learned a lot of Simon and Garfunkel in highschool… a boarding school. Was singing it to my daughter in the grocery store the other day… “Hello lamppost, whatcha knowin’? I come to watch your flowers growin’… Ain’t you got no rhymes for me? De dee de lee dee dee… feelin’ groovy!”. She rolled her eyes. Sigh.

I have a very soft spot in my heart for the monster ballads of the 80s and early 90s, as well as most anything by Chicago. Though most of the musical memory in my mind has given way to The ZOE Group; I find myself falling back to songs they’ve done. But (and maybe I should change some of my radio listening habits, but I’ll admit it for a laugh), Kelly Clarkson’s songs are extremely catchy…

We have all kinds of tastes in music at our crazy place: everything from Steven Curtis Chapman, ZOEgirl, Barlow Girl and Casting Crowns to Kenny Chesney, Montgomery Gentry, Keith Urban and believe it or not, Josh Groban. My kids also love to listen to classical music and have a new thing for American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood.

I did not grow up with the Gaithers! I grew up listening to oldies and country. It wasn’t til college that mom started listening to them constantly. Dad wouldn’t let her til Mamaw came to stay with us. His coC mentality said it was evil – “the devil in action” is what he said if I recall.
Anyway, I’m proud to say I’ve exorcised those demons and listen to Christian radio almost exclusively now.
