(read in an e-newsletter I accidentally deleted before saving the Title of the book or the author’s name – oops)
I read this after breakfast this morning and I’m still chewing on it. I’m trying to decide if I agree or not. Does Satan have a will in my life? Or does he want me to do my own will? What if our will truly is to do the will of God? Wouldn’t that make our will a good thing? Is the author talking about our tendencies toward our sinful nature? Isn’t it our will that decides to faithfully follow Christ? He offers the gift of Salvation and we decide whether or not to accept it? I’m reminded of the CD EXODUS that I listened to in the hospital when I had my three babies. It was very soothing to me. DC Talk has a song on that CD called “My Will”:
I’m setting the stage for the things I love
And I’m now the man I once couldn’t be
Nothing on earth could now ever move me
I now have the will and the strength a man needs
*Chorus
It’s my will, I’m not moving
Cause if it’s your will, then nothing can shake me
It’s my will to bow and praise you
I now have the will to praise my God
Complexity haunts me, for I am two men
entrenched in a battle that I’ll never win
My discipline fails me, my knowledge it fools me
But you are the shelter, all the strength that I need.
Repeat Chorus
I’m learning to give up the rights to myself
the bits and the pieces I’ve gathered as wealth
could never compare to the joy that you bring me
the peace that you show me is the strength that I need
Repeat Chorus
We’ve got to be the children of Peace
WILL is such an interesting thing…the very word means WE DECIDE. Think about it. A Last Will and Testament states what the owner of the Will decided to do with their possessions. When we say I WILL do this or that, it means we have decided to commit to that thing. WILL is amazing. Sometimes it’s a gift, sometimes a curse…it depends on what we do with it.
I think when our will is to do the will of God it is not our will anymore but God’s. Jesus prayed in the garden, “not my will but yours”. If Jesus had done his own will then Satan would’ve won because Jesus might not have gone to the cross. I think I agree with the author that Satan’s control over my life comes to him through my will. I would be interested in where that quote came from.
How is the move going? What is the day you will be moving? Wish we could be there to help! Love and miss you. You are in my prayers daily.
